The many islands of Kyushu are full of history, nature, religion, industries, & many variety of rich islands. On this tour visit Tsushima island where the Mongolian Invasions of 1274 & 1281 occurred, the Goto Islands where “Hidden Christians” settled during the ban on the religion, and Gunkanjima during 1960's the population density was world's no.1 but it is now a ghost island. There are histories, festivals and foods that cannot be found in guidebooks. No matter how many times you’re gone to Japan you will be surprised at the discovery of the New Japan. From hotel go to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Enshrining Sugawara Michizane, or Tenjin, the deity of learning, culture, and the arts, Dazaifu Tenmangu welcomes more than 10 million visitors a year. It is one of Japan’s most important Shinto shrines, the head of 12,000 Tenjin shrines nationwide, and one of the top places to visit in Fukuoka. Lunch is Fukuoka’s specialty Hakata ramen. Then visit Hakata-machiya Furusato-kan, a folk museum that introduces the lifestyle, history, craft & culture of the Meiji and Taisho periods. Next go to Fukuoka Tower, a 768 ft. tall seaside tower with the observation deck to see a great view of the surrounding area. Then return to same hotel. | × |

After leaving the hotel catch a ferry (about 2 hr. 20 min. ride) go to Iki Island called the god's dwell. It is 10:1 of Oahu, a small island with more than 150 shrines. Lunch is Iki beef. The cows are born and raised on the island, yearly only 900 is shipped out. Then visit Harahoge Jizo, there are 6 Jizo statues when high tide the Jizo statues are standing with the water up to its chest. Next go to Sakyobana, this extremely steep rising cliff runs for about one kilometer. The view of the waves hitting the cliff and the horizon are stunning. Then visit Kojima Shrine, called the Mont-Saint-Michel of Iki Island, a power spot, an island where God sleeps. Only when low tide (a certain period of time) a road appears where you can walk across to worship. Next go to Harunotsuji Archeological Site, it is a large scale ruins that was originally from 2-3 B.C to 3-4 A.D. It's the national historic sites from Yayoi era. Then go to hotel. |

From the hotel go to Katsumoto morning market. This market originated approximately 400 years ago in the form of bartering. Tourists can mingle with the locals to shop for fresh products from both land and sea while enjoying conversations with the vendors. Next visit Kakeki ancient tomb, the burial mound is elevated 100m on the hill. The coffin was built in drilled type only in Iki island. Then go to see the Saruiwa (Monkey Rock) created by nature over many years, looks just like a monkey facing away. It appears in a legend because it is a mysterious sight. It is also said to be a pillar built by the gods so that Iki-no-shima will not be washed away. Next catch a ferry (about 2 hr. 10 min. ride) & go to Tsushima Island. Lunch will be bento on the ferry. Sightseeing within Tsushima. visit a sort of tourist information center where you can learn the history of Tsushima, and you can also buy specialty product souvenirs. Next go to Komodahama Shrine Festival. (Mongolian invasion old battlefield) The Mongol Forces of 30,000 people who rode 900 vessels attacked Tsushima on October 5, 1274. Samurais of 80 people tried for defensive fight, fighting to slow the invasion, but all the members were defeated and died. Komodahama Shrine Festival is performed in November, Sou clan (Tsushima lord) and descendants of vassal participate in armor every year, and ceremony of exorcism using a bow to sound bow towards the sea is performed. It is also crowded with dedication sumo wrestling, dedication drums, and store openings. Try the Dantsuke mochi that you can eat only during this festival. Next go to Uchiyama Pass Observation Deck, if the weather is clear you can see Pusan of Korea and Kyushu of Japan. Then return to same hotel. | × |

After leaving the hotel catch a ferry (about 2 hr. 20 min. ride) go back to the Iki Island. Lunch is your choice at restaurant. Next from Iki Island catch a ferry to go to Karatsu (about 1 hr. 40 min. ride). Then go to hotel. |

SASEBO

From Karatsu with a small boat, about 10 minutes go to Takashima's Houtou Shrine. If you visit this shrine they say you can win the lottery. Also there are many cats which is a symbol to bring in good luck in Japan. If you see a cat in a praying pose, big chance to win. There will be 10 lottery tickets given out as present to our customers. Pick 6 numbers of your choice, you might win 6 million dollars, no tax. Next visit Yobuko morning market, one of three Japan’s biggest morning markets. Lunch is your choice at restaurant. Then go to Okawachiyama, it is a secluded pottery village just outside Imari. Often referred to as the Village of Secret Kilns, it was once an exclusive pottery hub producing porcelain ware for Japan's elite and for export. Today, Okawachiyama Village have mostly pottery workshops and their store. Next go to Ishidake Observatory, see the beautiful scenery as used on one of the scene on “Last Samurai". Then go to hotel in Sasebo. Dinner is Sasebo's specialty lemon steak. | × |

From Sasebo catch a ferry (about 2 hr. 30 min. ride) and go to Nakadori Island of Goto Islands (Five Islands), famous as a hidden Christian Island. Lunch is Goto Udon one of three Japan’s best udon, uses Goto island's special product Camellia oil. Then visit World Cultural Heritage Kashiragashima Catholic Church, cutting & piling up the stones from the island it took about 10 years to complete the church. Visit Yagatame sea salt factory and take a tour of the factory. Using only the clean seawater of the Goto Islands as a raw material, it is a direct-fired flat kettle type, and is based on the traditional manufacturing method. Then go to the hotel. |

From the hotel catch a small boat ride (the only way) to see the Harinomendo (a rock hole) it means a hole in a needle, it seems to be the shape of Maria who is holding a child. Also see Christian caves where hidden christians lived back then. Lunch is your choice at restaurant. Next from Nakadori Island catch a ferry (about 2 hrs. 30 mins. ride) and go to Nagasaki. In the evening ride a ropeway to go Inasayama and see the night views of Nagasaki, the new one of three major night views of Japan. Then go to hotel. | × |

Sightseeing within Nagasaki. From the hotel catch a ferry and go to Gunkanjima, a small island of 0.68 sq.ft. From around 1890 the island flourished with coal. There were 5200 people living back then, but now it is a uninhabited world heritage site island. If the waves are not high you can land. Lunch is Nagasaki Champon at famous Kyokaen Rest. Next visit Dejima, a man-made island and was a Dutch trading post a couple hundred years ago. The area is now been restored and includes historical buildings, a museum and a miniature model of the former island. Then visit Glover Residence, the oldest western-style house. Next visit the Nagasaki Peace Park, commemorating the atomic bombing of the city on Aug.9, 1945 during World War II. Before going to hotel see Megane bashi, with the reflection on the water that looks like a eyeglass. Then return to same hotel. |

After leaving the hotel visit Nagasaki Castella Land, see the castella factory and the stores. Next visit Obama Onsen, has Japan’s longest footbath. Lunch is steamed food prepared using the onsen steam. Then visit Arima Christian Heritage Museum, learn the course of Christianity in Japan from the first introduction and flourishing of western culture to the oppression and eventual decline of Christianity. Also tells the story of the Hara Castle Ruins of 1637 during the Shimabara Rebellion led by Amakusa Shiro, an uprising of Japanese Roman Catholics against the Shogun Tokugawa, their battle place where Shiro was executed. Also see the Hara castle ruins. Then go to hotel at Obama onsen. | × |
